The Birth of Sharon's Remembrance Bear
At the request of a dear friend, this Remembrance Bear was created. My friend's son-in-law had tragically passed away suddenly. Wanting to give her eleven-year-old granddaughter something to commemorate her father's life, as well as something for her to "hold" on to, my friend asked if I could create a bear from her son-in-law's clothing.
When I rummaged through the bag of clothing my friend had given me to use, I was truly uncertain as to what I could do. It was, however, as if God guided my hands through each step of this process. For I first took his sweater and made the bear. I then created the bear's hat from one of his sweatshirts, and the bow of the hat from his tie. The shirt this bear is wearing was made from one of his T-shirts and her skirt from a pair of his jeans. Her vest was from a pair of his dress pants and her bloomers from another. The cuffs on her shirt and the dog she holds was made from a pair of socks. The tie on the dog was from his bathing trunks. The petals of the flowers on her vest were cut from several of his shirts and the centers of the flowers as well as the eyes and nose of the dog are buttons from his shirts.
When my friend's granddaughter received her bear, not only was she comforted, she could identify each article of clothing used as her father had worn them.
It was for me, a very moving experience.
